How Does Invisalign Work?

Unlike traditional braces with metal wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into place. Each aligning tray represents a different stage of treatment, and you’ll move on to the next in the series after about 2 weeks. It’s important that you wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day to ensure that the treatment is most effective. Typically, Invisalign in Webster will take between 6 and 18 months to complete, and your treatment time will all depend on your specific smile. Plus, the aligning trays are completely removeable, allowing you to eat all of your favorite foods without worrying about damaging your orthodontics.

Invisalign Teen Clear Aligners

We also offer Invisalign Teen—the most popular treatment for high schoolers. The teen years can be some of the most socially awkward times in your son or daughter’s life, which is why they may not want to add braces into the mix. However, we offer Invisalign Teen to give your kids a chance to get an amazingly straight smile without the appearance and discomfort of braces. The only difference between Invisalign Teen and regular Invisalign is that these aligners come with small blue dots that change colors based on how much they’re worn. That way, parents can tell exactly how much their kids have been wearing them. Additionally, we provide a few extra aligners because let’s face it, teens are more likely to lose or break one!

How You Can Benefit from propel

One of the main factors that hold patients back from getting the straight smile of their dreams is time. Invisalign, even though it has a shorter treatment time than braces, can be a long commitment. However, we offer Propel as a solution. This amazing technology uses gentle vibrations sent through a mouthpiece that speeds up the movement of your teeth, potentially cutting your treatment time in half. This works by accelerating a process called bone remodeling, which allows your teeth to shift more easily into an aligned position.

Understanding the Cost of Invisalign

If you’re considering Invisalign, you’re probably wondering about the price of your treatment. For any specific questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly team at Drabik Orthodontics to learn more. Until then, we’ve included some of the most important factors that determine the cost of Invisalign in Rochester.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Invisalign

There are three main factors that will influence the price of your Invisalign:

  • Are you straightening one arch or both? While it’s usually the entire smile, only needing Invisalign for one arch will generally cost less.
  • How complex is your case? A single gap in the smile will require less time and aligning trays to correct than teeth that are misaligned and crowded throughout the mouth.
  • How long will your treatment take? Usually, longer treatment times for more complex cases require additional aligners, which will add to the total cost of your Invisalign.

Invisalign vs. Smile Direct Club™: Which Costs More?

When choosing a treatment, if your main goal is to get the quickest fix at the lowest cost, then Smile Direct Club is the clear choice. Invisalign usually costs between $3,000 to $8,000, while Smile Direct Club costs just under $2,000. That said, you must remember that Smile Direct Club is a “do it yourself” service that consists of a clear aligner kit with little to no supervision from a professional. That leaves a lot of room for error, especially during a major oral health treatment. Many issues that can occur during orthodontics are quite costly and severe if they’re not caught early on, making it necessary to see an orthodontist anyway. Meanwhile, Invisalign comes with the oversight of Dr. Drabik or Dr. Peres with 1-on-1 attention every step of the way. This leads to better, smoother, and more successful results!

Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign?

Only some dental insurance plans cover orthodontics. However, Invisalign is usually not included. This is not always the case, which is why it’s important to check with your provider. We are happy to communicate with them directly to help you maximize your benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket spending. Additionally, you can use your FSA, if you have one, to help cover your costs.

Who Can Invisalign Help?

Invisalign offers benefits to a diverse range of patients, spanning from adolescents to adults seeking to enhance their smiles. It effectively tackles mild to moderate orthodontic issues, such as malocclusion (misalignment), crowded or crooked teeth, and more. To determine its suitability for your specific needs, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with our team. Meanwhile, you can review the information below to gain insight into the common problems Invisalign can successfully address.

Crowded Teeth

If you're experiencing the sensation of too many teeth in your mouth, it may be due to crowding issues. Thankfully, Invisalign clear aligners offer a gentle solution to align your teeth properly. Addressing crowded teeth is crucial as they can heighten the risk of oral health issues like decay and gum disease.

Gaps Between Teeth

Gaps in your smile not only affect aesthetics but also pose risks for gum problems, improper bite, decay, and more. Food particles can easily become trapped between teeth, leading to decay and bad breath. Fortunately, Invisalign can guide teeth into a healthier, aligned position.

Overbite

3D graphic of overbite

An overbite, or overjet, occurs when the top teeth protrude excessively over the lower arch when the mouth is closed. It can result in speech difficulties, jaw pain, uneven tooth wear, and other issues. Invisalign may be able to correct overbites by shifting teeth and aligning the lower jaw properly.

Underbite

An underbite happens when the bottom teeth overlap the top teeth when the mouth is closed. It can increase the risk of obstructive sleep apnea, chronic mouth breathing, and difficulties with speaking and chewing. Invisalign can often address underbites with the aid of rubber bands to guide the lower jaw into the correct position.

Crossbite

In a crossbite, some lower teeth protrude ahead of the upper teeth. Left untreated, it can raise the risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and teeth breakage. Invisalign typically can realign teeth and jaws to correct a crossbite, enhancing oral health.

Open Bite

If there's a space between your upper and lower front teeth even when your back teeth touch, it's termed an open bite. This condition can lead to speech issues and excessive wear on back teeth. Invisalign is often effective in closing an open bite by bringing the upper and lower front teeth into alignment.

Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign aligners have been on the market for close to 20 years at this point, but they’re still the new kid on the block when it comes to orthodontics. As a result, they aren’t quite as well understood among the general population as traditional wire and bracket braces.

When you come to Drabik Orthodontics for a consultation, we’ll work with you to ensure that you know everything there is to know about Invisalign near North Chili and what the treatment entails. Until then, however, here are answers to a few of the questions we get asked a lot.

What Does Invisalign Look Like?

One of the things that’s hardest to believe until you experience it yourself is just how subtle Invisalign aligners are. They’re made of a thin, clear plastic that seats tightly against the teeth, making them nearly invisible while you’re wearing them. That means that you can get straighter teeth with virtually no impact on your appearance.

If you want your aligners to stay completely clear, you should care for them well to ensure that they don’t collect stains. You should also know that Invisalign treatment sometimes involves additional attachments that won’t be made of clear plastic. They’ll be tooth-colored, but they’ll still be more noticeable than your aligners.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Just about any orthodontic treatment is going to be a little bit uncomfortable, especially at the beginning when the teeth just begin to move. However, this should fade on its own after a few weeks—long-term, these aligners are incredibly comfortable.

The sleek design of the trays means that you aren’t going to have to worry about brackets rubbing against your lips or gums. In general, the only time you should feel any discomfort for most of your orthodontic treatment is for a few hours after switching to a new tray, and this can be managed easily with over-the-counter pain medicine.

What If My Invisalign Is Broken/Lost?

While Invisalign aligners are shockingly durable, accidents happen, and it’s possible that you could damage your Invisalign aligner beyond repair. The fact that they’re clear also makes them easy to lose if you don’t have a carrying case for them.

If either of these issues occurs, you should call us immediately. Depending on when you received this set of aligners, we’ll either recommend that you move to a previous set until you can be sent a replacement or just move you up to the next set of trays prematurely.

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t try to repair your aligners on your own. Super glue isn’t safe to put in your mouth, and certainly not for 20-22 hours a day.

Can You Eat with Invisalign In?

Invisalign clear aligners in Gates have the advantage of being removable, which eliminates many of the dietary restrictions that come with traditional orthodontics. So long as you take off your aligners beforehand, you can eat just about anything you want.

However, we strongly recommend against eating with your aligners in. This puts a lot of pressure on your trays, which can potentially crack them. The same goes for drinking anything that isn’t room-temperature water—hot or cold drinks can warp your trays, and liquids like coffee or red wine can leave stains behind on your aligners.
